The Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle is the final race of the Cheltenham Festival, taking place at 5.20pm on day four. It was established in 2009 and is named in honour of Martin Pipe, a 15-time champion trainer who retired in 2006 with 34 victories at the festival. As the title suggests, it is open only to conditional jockeys - professional riders who are still at the start of their careers. Check the Martin Pipe runners and riders ahead of the big race and place your bets by clicking the odds buttons.

Back in better form with placed efforts over fences on last two starts; fairly useful hurdler on his day and ran respectably (finished seventh) off a higher mark in the 2m5f handicap at this meeting two years ago; however, whether he retains that level of ability is not fully clear.

Useful mare whose record of 6-12 over hurdles includes two handicap wins over C&D and Listed honours at Sandown; heavy ground possibly contributed to a form-dip last time; faded into midfield in this race last year but was ridden more prominently than usual; on a stiffer mark this time.

Well treated on best chase form, including second in Gowran Grade 2 when returned to that sphere last time, but he has never been able to show it over hurdles; his Cheltenham Festival record of P40, the fourth-place finish over fences, adds to the uncertainty.

RACING POST TIP

Wendrock
Gordon Elliott and Willie Mullins are again well represented in a Festival finale they've farmed, having won eight of the 17 runnings between them. Particularly interesting is Elliott's runner WENDROCK who brings significant potential returned to this distance and with Carl Millar back on board. The selection may well peak today and has a better chance than his inconsistent form figures suggest. There are some solid contenders from other yards and the suggestion for second choice is the Chris Gordon-trained Andashan, who looks set to show further progress. Third pick is the Henry de Bromhead-trained Air Of Entitlement who was successful at this meeting 12 months ago. Kel Histoire, Roc Dino and Jump Allen all command respect for the Mullins team.

WHAT HAPPENED LAST YEAR - MARTIN PIPE HANDICAP 2025

down

Gordon Elliott had to wait until the final race of the meeting to saddle a winner last year with Wodhooh. It had been a frustrating week for Elliott but Danny Gilligan’s mount ensured he did not leave with a blank. Wodhooh brought course form and an unbeaten record over hurdles into the race and proved too good for handicap company with a four-and-a-quarter-length win.
