The Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup is the most prestigious contest in jump racing, winning the Gold Cup has been the pinnacle for some of the greatest horses in the history of the sport. The Grade 1 chase provides the highlight of the four-day Cheltenham Festival, and with prize-money of £625,000, it's the most valuable jumps race in Britain and Ireland after the Grand National. Among the greats to have won the race are Golden Miller, Mill House, Arkle, Best Mate and Kauto Star. Galopin Des Champs is the latest to join these all-time great horses after back-to-back victories in 2023 and 2024. Inothewayurthinkin prevented Galopin Des Champs from a third consecutive win last time out, and with both these horses expected to run again in 2026, it looks likely to be a classic. His remarkable haul of ten Grade 1 wins includes three at the Cheltenham Festival, and it was at that level that he won at Down Royal in November on his sole outing this season; however, he was a well-beaten third in the Ryanair last March and, now 12, today's task is likely to prove beyond him.

Won the Grade 1 Brown Advisory here in March 2022 and also the Cotswold Chase here last January; pushed Spillane's Tower close in that same 3m1f Grade 2 this season, when conceding 6lb to the winner, but no match for Haiti Couleurs since and this 11yo is up against it in today's company.

Impressive in Grade 2 Cleeve Hurdle here (3m, soft) in January 2023 and 7l runner-up in Grade 1 chase in France (3m3f, heavy) in November this term; rain would be a plus for this French raider but he was soundly beaten in the 2024 Betfair Chase on his last British start and would be a shock winner.

Won the Arkle here (2m, soft) in March 2024 and relished the step up to 3m1f in the Grade 1 Bowl at Aintree (good to soft) last April; that win has been the catalyst for a string of excellent efforts, including his third in a blanket finish in the King George (3m, good to soft) in December and his 5l second in the Irish Gold Cup (3m, soft) last month; can be difficult to settle which is something of a concern in view of today's stiff stamina test, but on the flip side he's been finishing his races strongly; respected.

Prominent-racer who won the NH Chase (Handicap) at this meeting 12 months ago (3m6f, good to soft) and bounced back from November's Betfair Chase flop to win the Welsh National (3m6f, good to soft) and also the Grade 2 Denman Chase (2m7f, heavy); this highly progressive 9yo is now 6-8 over fences and should prove well suited to the demands of today's race, all the more so if there's rain and stamina is at a premium; firmly in calculations.

Won the 2m4f novice chase at the 2024 Festival (soft) and added a second Grade 1 win in the Betfair Chase at Haydock (3m1f, good to soft) this season; a mistake two out proved costly when 5l third of four to Spillane's Tower in the Grade 2 Cotswold Chase here (3m1f, soft) in January and he rallied up the hill; however, he may just lack the required class today.

He's performed respectably in defeat at the last two Cheltenham Festivals and won a Grade 2 at Down Royal (2m3f, good to yielding) in November; 14l fourth when upped in trip in the Irish Gold Cup (3m, soft) last month and he'll be doing very well if he improves upon that finishing position today.

Disappointing on his three runs this term and a major turnaround is required; however, he's left his winter form behind to win at the Cheltenham Festival in each of the last two seasons (soft/good to soft), including this race last year by 6l, and he attracted market support last week; cheekpieces go on and he'll be tough to beat if rediscovering his brilliant best.

Won two Grade 1s in Ireland in spring 2024 during novice chase campaign (2m4f/3m1f, heavy/yielding) and posted first win since in the Grade 2 Cotswold Chase here (3m1f, soft) this January; only eight and it's possible he has an even bigger performance in him, but he had to work hard last time and was receiving 6lb from the runner-up L'Homme Presse; others preferred.

Cruelly caught in the final strides in the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle here (3m, heavy) in March 2024; 2-2 in novice chases last season (including Grade 1) and, after missing last year's Festival due to injury, he made it 2-2 this term and 4-4 over fences when winning the King George (3m, good) in December, narrowly in a breathtaking four-way finish (Gaelic Warrior third, Jango Baie fourth); the way he rallied to edge back in front at Kempton provides optimism regarding today's stiffer test and he's a key player.

Came from behind to win the Arkle here (2m, good to soft) 12 months ago and, as could be anticipated, was well suited by the step up to 3m when a very close fourth behind The Jukebox Man and Gaelic Warrior in the King George at Kempton (3m, good) in December; of the four involved in that thrilling finish he arguably shaped as the one most likely to improve for today's stiffer test; seems versatile ground-wise; could play a leading role.

RACING POST TIP

Haiti Couleurs
Inothewayurthinkin has raised his game significantly to win at the Cheltenham Festival in each of the last two seasons and last week's market support has dropped a firm hint that he may well repeat that trend now that he is wearing first-time cheekpieces. He won this race by 6l last March and it will take a very big performance to beat him if he rediscovers that dazzling form, but he has been sorely disappointing this season and this time a transformation is needed if he is to win again. Irish-trained contenders have won nine of the last ten runnings, with Native River being the anomaly in 2018, and the Welsh National may once more prove the source for a British-trained winner today. HAITI COULEURS (nap) defied a big weight in the Chepstow marathon in December and has since made it 6-8 over fences with an authoritative win in the Denman Chase at Newbury. Today's stiff test will be right up his street, especially if any rain puts greater emphasis on stamina. The Jukebox Man, Gaelic Warrior and Jango Baie are very closely matched on their rousing clash in the King George and are all entitled to respect this afternoon, but Jango Baie may be the one who derives most benefit from today's longer trip and more demanding track, and he could be the main threat to Haiti Couleurs ahead of Inothewayurthinkin.

WHAT HAPPENED LAST YEAR - CHELTENHAM GOLD CUP 2025

Galopin Des Champs was thwarted in his hat-trick bid by Inothewayurthinkin. The 8-13 favourite didn’t look on his A-game from the outset and was unable to repel the JP McManus-owned six-length winner in the straight. It was a first Gold Cup success for jockey Mark Walsh and trainer Gavin Cromwell, with Inothewayurthinkin, who was only supplemented for the race the week before, returning odds of 15-2.
